Sesame seeds: India is too expensive for South Korea

NEW DELHI. The result of this week's tender has been announced. China is the big winner, whereas India is left empty-handed. The bid prices were simply too high.

 

Only 3,000 mt have been accepted

Chinese exporters have been awarded the contract. At bid prices of 1,800-1,830 USD/mt, 1,200 mt of sesame seeds of African origin from China are to be shipped to South Korea. This left has, however, left 9,400 mt of sesame seeds outstanding, as the tender initially comprised 10,600 mt.

The registered companies then had the opportunity to submit a corrected bid. Here, too, the Chinese company scored again, this time with bid prices of 1,838-1,839 USD/mt. A total of 2,100 mt of African sesame seeds will therefore
