NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. Indian sesame seeds are losing their appeal for growers. In Pakistan, too, the acreage has recently been reduced. Meanwhile, China has seen record imports.

The Indian sesame seed market lacks momentum. In recent months, low demand has led to a sustained weak price trend, which is why market players are increasingly turning to agricultural products such as wheat, chickpeas and coriander. Deliveries from the growing regions have declined sharply, with only 300 to 400 bags of sesame seeds arriving in the major trading markets each day.
