Sesame seeds: Massive crop damage expected

NEW DELHI. No matter whether in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan: In all large Indian sesame producing regions the risk of crop damage is high due to the heavy precipitation of the past days.

Up to 30% of the crop is affected

Nationwide, it is reported that 25-30% of the crop has already been damaged. The states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan together produce about 60-80% of the Indian sesame seeds crop. About 30% of the crop in Madhya Pradesh is said to have been damaged, in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan an estimated 15-20% of the area is affected.
