Sesame seeds: low prices could affect sowing in Gujarat

NEW DELHI/ADDIS ABABA. In order to meet demand, the Indian sesame seed market will once again be dependent on increased imports in the coming months. Government regulations are hampering the sesame sees trade in Burkina Faso.

Imports become important

The Indian sesame seed market is experiencing a weak winter season and arrivals of the new crop from the growing regions have declined sharply. Between January and April, the Indian market will be heavily dependent on imports to meet both the needs of the processing industry and export demand. According to experts, a total of around 290,383 mt of sesame seeds worth USD 510.908 million was exported overseas in 2025.
