NEW DELHI/KHARTOUM. Several origins are struggling with flooding this year. Attractive prices on the world market have ensured that India's exports have risen by 26% this year.

India's exports up by 26%

Indian sesame farmers completed sowing for the Kharif crop in mid-August. Growers can begin harvesting within the next two to three weeks, and the goods should be available on Indian commercial markets from mid-October. Heavy rainfall in July and August caused flooding in some regions and prevented sowing from developing optimally. Market players are expecting lower yields in any case, but the exact extent is still unknown. In Gujarat, 41,004 hectares were planted with sesame seeds for the winter crop, compared to 49,426 hectares last year.
