Sesame seeds: slight increase in cultivation

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. By the end of July, Indian sesame farmers had sown around 4% more land than last year. This is partly due to subsidies in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, India recorded a significant increase in exports in the first half of 2025.

Uttar Pradesh promotes sesame cultivation

In India, the current forecasts for the Kharif sowing season are positive. However, reports of insufficient rainfall are causing market players to worry about yields. By the end of July, Indian sesame farmers had planted a total of 744,000 hectares for the coming harvest, representing an increase of 4.2% over last year. In Uttar Pradesh alone, 303,000 hectares are said to have been sown so far, which would be 68.3% more than last year at this time.
