NEW DELHI. Contrary to previous expectations, the new sesame seed tender is delayed by a few weeks. Meanwhile, the outlook for the Indian summer crop remains good.

Up to 150,000 mt of sesame seeds expected in Gujarat

The Indian sesame seed market is currently quiet. Sluggish domestic and export demand is keeping trading activity low, and major buying countries such as China still have sufficient stocks to keep them afloat until the new crop is available. The summer crop should arrive in the Indian trade markets in the next four to eight weeks and a good production result is currently expected. In Gujarat, 91,103 ha have been sown so far, about two-thirds more than the 54,458 ha this time last year. Market player
