Spice market update: chilli buyers pin their hopes on the new crop

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

Farmers in the main growing areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan say the low monsoon rains could have a negative impact on the upcoming cumin crop. So far, there has been almost 60% less rainfall than usual. Market players report relatively low domestic and export demand, but due to speculative buying, prices are holding steady for now and are unchanged at USD 2,193/mt FOB India for grade A cumin. There was little movement in Indian markets this week due to the Jamashtami festival.
