Spice markt update: coriander in a downward spiral

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

In the last four weeks alone, Indian cumin has lost 11% in value, and the price declines continue this week. There is also bad news from the cultivation areas in Rajasthan, where a 10% increase in yield was expected due to a larger acreage. Temperatures here have risen by 5°C in the last few days, which is affecting crop development. If the weather is unfavourable in the next two weeks, a significantly smaller production is to be expected. BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
