MANISA. In Turkey, the raisin market is welcoming the current heatwave. Despite delays, the prospects for this year’s crop are better than last year. Producers have already dried the first volumes. Exports are still lagging 10,000 mt behind.

Welcome heat

Turkey has entered a heatwave with extremely high temperatures ranging at 24-25C (72-77F) at night and at 37-39C (99-102F) throughout the day in Manisa. Yet, the hot weather is excellent for the ripening period as the long-lasting cool night temperatures experienced in recent months have delayed the start of the harvest. This will also cause slight delays to drying, which is a most risky period.

Better yields
