Sunflower seeds: crop falls short of expectations

SOFIA. Although the area sown has risen, the crops range below expectations in Bulgaria and in Russia. Traders in Bulgaria are also concerned over a second coronavirus wave.

Most difficult harvest season witnessed in twenty years

The further harvesting progresses, the clearer the image becomes on quality and volume. Persistent drought has has an adverse impact in parts of Bulgaria. After witnessing three months without rain, market players now report that rain has delayed harvesting over the last few days. Although the area sown reportedly ranges 8% hgiher than last year, yields have declined considerably. While yields can range at 2.5 mt/ha in good years, hullers report that some farmers only have yields ranging as low as 0.5-1.0 mt/ha
