SOFIA/BEIJING. Good domestic demand before the Chinese New Year ensures persistently high prices for Chinese sunflower seeds. In the Eastern European market, high prices are again causing a lack of buying interest.

Increasing demand from Europe

The approaching Chinese New Year caused demand for unhulled sunflower seeds to flare up in the Chinese market, keeping prices at their high levels. At the same time, high freight rates made overseas shipments less attractive for many buyers, and exports to the Middle East have slowed significantly. Chinese suppliers are hoping for an improvement in the situation after the New Year holidays and expect prices to fall slightly. For sunflower seeds, unhulled, type 361, 180-190 pcs./50g, export prices are USD 1,310-1,340/mt FOB China.
