SOFIA/KYIV. The sunflower seed market is still characterised by low trading activity, and the high imports from Ukraine do not only bring advantages for growers and traders within the EU. Meanwhile, the USDA estimates the global crop to be about 11% lower than last year.

Stalemate continues

The EU sunflower seed market is groaning under the weight of imports from Ukraine. Bulgarian traders had speculated some time ago that prices would rise again. Inflation and rising energy and production costs, however, are currently preventing prices from falling further. Hulled sunflower kernels, bakery are currently holding their level of EUR 1.08-1.12/kg DDP Germany
