SOFIA. Good weather conditions, high commodity stocks and the exchange rate are the driving forces behind the current price development on the Bulgarian sunflower seed market.

Farmers show consideration
The official commodity price level was continuously reduced during the last few weeks. Meanwhile, farmers and traders have come to the conclusion that they will not be able to impose any more appreciable price increases in this season and have adjusted their offers to the lower prices. Black sunflower seeds, in-shell, 96% purity, are currently being offered for 327 EUR/mt CPT Varna.

The threshold
Processors and shelling operations are also benefiting from the lower commodity prices and lowered their prices for bakery seeds despite the season coming to an end soon. Bulgarian bakery sunflower seeds are currently being offered for 0.71 EUR/kg DDP Germany (delivery until the end of July 2017). Most suppliers and processors will be going on their summer break in the next two weeks, it remains to be seen if this will have an effect on the further price development.

Bakery sunflower seeds from the new crop are also being offered at a lower price than last week, for 605-610 EUR/kg FCA Bulgaria. Suppliers are still refusing to go below the price limit of 0.60 EUR/kg. But if the commodity prices continue to drop, this can also no longer be ruled out.
