MOSCOW/BERLIN. Larger acreages for oilseeds, including sunflower seeds, are expected to bring a new record crop to the Russian market in the 2025/2026 season. Sunflower seeds are currently coming under price pressure in Bulgaria.

Russia plans new record crop

Despite a similar acreage to last year, lower yields meant that sunflower seed production in Russia was lower in the 2024/2025 season. According to data from the US Department of Agriculture, a total of 9.3 million ha were harvested, resulting in a crop of 16.3 million mt. However, Russia is heading for another record crop next year. The head of the Russian Institute of Agricultural Market Economy (ICAR), Dmitry Rylko, told OleoScope that oilseed acreage is set to increase by 1 million ha to 19 million ha in the coming 2025/2026 season.
