Sunflower seeds: Ukraine's sowing at 10-year low

SOFIA/KYIV. The Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture expects domestic sunflower seed production to reach a ten year low. Meanwhile, the country needs additional storage capacity for the upcoming crop. In Bulgaria, the plants are developing well and give hope for a good crop result.

Where to store the crop?

Despite all the adversities that Russia's invasion of Ukraine brought for the country and its population, producers have sown 4.7 million ha with sunflowers, almost 30% less than in 2021. The last time the area was this small was in 2011. In addition to the known environmental factors such as sufficient sunshine and rainfall, the further development of the situation in Ukraine will also have a noticeable impact on the crop result.
