SOFIA/KYIV. The US Department of Agriculture has drastically reduced its production estimates compared to its November report. In particular, the forecasts for Ukraine have been adjusted downwards. However, the result could have been even lower.

Global production decline expected

In its report this week, the US Department of Agriculture made significant corrections to its crop forecasts for the 2025 sunflower seed crop. Compared to the November report (54.263 million mt), the estimate has been revised downwards by almost 5%, and compared to the initial forecasts in July (56.328 million mt), the decline is as much as 8%. It is currently assumed that global sunflower seed production will total 51.772 million mt, which would be a further decline of almost 1% compared to the already weak figures for last year.
