Sunflower seeds: weather remains an important factor

SOFIA/WASHINGTON, D.C. The weather in Bulgaria is expected to remain hot and dry for the time being. According to data from the USDA, sunflower seed crops in Russia and Moldova are higher than expected. At the same time, the forecast for Ukraine has been revised downwards.

500,000 mt larger crop in Russia

The current forecast by the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture shows some major adjustments. Global sunflower seed production is expected to reach 56.328 million mt in 2025/2026, which would be 137,000 mt more than expected in June and an increase of 7.4% or 3.88 million mt compared to last year. Compared with previous estimates, the sunflower seed crop in Russia is expected to be 500,000 mt higher at 18 million mt, an increase of 6.5% over last year.
