Walnuts: adjusted US crop estimates

SACRAMENTO. According to experts, the US walnut crop could turn out better than previously expected. This means that the pressure on prices continues to grow despite qualitative deficiencies. Meanwhile, US exports declined significantly in October.

Quality is modest

Expectations for the US walnut crop have been adjusted a few times this year. After the objective estimate of the US Department of Agriculture had put the result at a good 650,000 mt, still below last year's result, market players now expect a somewhat better result. The experts at Olam, for example, forecast walnut production of 660,000-715,000 mt, i.e. between the result of the 2021 crop and the subjective estimate from spring 2022.
