FRANKFURT. Supplies in Europe are abundant, and prices could hardly be any better for the export market. Suppliers in Germany are, however, highly worried over the fierce competition from France.

Decrease in production

According to recent estimates Germany will produce 24,34 M mt of wheat this year. Although only a nominal decrease to the 24,54 M mt produced in 2016, the figure is almost 5% below the five-year production average.

Producers in Germany are, nevertheless, confident. Estimates of the German Farmers’ Association state that winter wheat has been sown on 3.16 Mio ha – a nominal year-on-year increase of 0.9%.
