Good season
Total shipments fell by 9% to 154,113 mt as a smaller crop and, above all, virtually non-existent carryover stocks made it impossible for the market to match the records witnessed in 2024/2025. Yet, sales were significantly better than initially expected. Domestic demand fell by 8% to 24,083 mt as compared with 2024/2025, and exports dropped by 9% to 130,029 mt. At 75,492 mt, around 58% of Australian almond exports went to China, followed by India (11%), Vietnam (10%), Turkey (6%) and Germany (3%).
In February 2026, the final month of the season, Australia shipped 5,386 mt of kernels and inshells, which was relatively flat on February last year. Monthly exports fell by 7% to 2,760 mt, whereas domestic shipments rose by 9% to 2,626 mt. The main buyer in February, after Australia itself, was China (+3% to 701 mt), followed by Turkey (-59% to 325 mt) and Germany (+107% to 281 mt).

Uncertainties prevail for 2026 crop
Conditions are far from ideal for the current harvest campaign as Australia Almonds report. Growers are still facing a number of challenges, including persistent wet weather across 75% of the orchards, as well as uncertainties regarding the supply of fuel and fertilisers. The heavy rainfall in Sunraysia (Victoria) and the Riverland (South Australia) in March will have an impact on whether the 2026 almond crop can match last year. Expecation is that the highest-quality almonds will come from the Riverina region in New South Wales, as the region has experienced one of the driest harvest periods in many years.
