MADRID. Spanish almond farmers are disappointed with the yields from the current crop. At the same time, exports got off to a strong start this season. Compared with the same period last year, Spain's almond exports rose by 64%.

Disappointing yields

Market players are dissatisfied with the results of the Spanish almond harvest so far. The average yield per hectare is disappointing. Despite the rainy spring, the persistently high temperatures in the summer months put considerable strain on the trees, and there is great concern that last year's drought has damaged the trees in the long term.

According to information from ZAPATA ECOAGRO, prices for Valencia almonds stood at EUR 5.05-5.08/kg at the end of October, while Largueta almonds were trading at EUR 5.49-5.50/kg. Prices for Spanish organic almonds are currently EUR 6.05-6.15/kg.

Strong August exports

On August 1, the Spanish almond market kicked off the 2025/2026 export season. In the first month of the new season, Spain's almond exports totalled 14,990 mt, up 64.3% from the same month last year. A good 95% of Spain's almond exports go to Europe. Germany and France are the two most important customers, accounting for 29% and 24% of total exports respectively, followed by Italy, the Netherlands, and Belgium.
