Almonds: Harvest is in full swing in California

SACRAMENTO. All over California the almond farmers are now busy harvesting. Blue Diamond Almonds reckons that...

... all shellers will have been supplied with the new crop by next week. should have been supplied with almonds as far as possible. This year there are particularly marked differences in the degree of maturity within the orchards. Some farmers delayed the harvsting by a few days to let all nuts ripen. The best yields have so far been observed in the San Joaquin Valley as the weather was particularly favourable during flowering. In addition the quality of the almonds makes a good impression. The nuts have so far experienced lower insect infestation by for instacne the navel orange worm than last year.

CANBERRA. Rainfall has led to a slow start to the export season in the Australian almond market. Domestic deliveries, however, have increased slightly. Crop forecasts remain optimistic.
