Almonds: US supplies to be lower than expected

SACRAMENTO. Market players in California now believe that this year’s production will fall short of the estimates issued by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). A bumper crop is out of the question.

In its current report, the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has increased its global production estimates for 2018/19 to 1.345 million mt - a rise of 6.6% over 2017/18 (1.26 million mt). These figures are, however, based on the NASS estimates for California of 1.11 million mt, the largest production on record.
