MALATYA. The Turkish dried fruit market is looking forward to a record-breaking apricot production, while the current season is already mentally finished.

Market-friendly holidays

The prices for Turkish dried apricots are lower than they have been for years, and the good crop predictions are putting additional pressure on the market. Although prices are stable, the suppliers are still quite willing to negotiate if there is serious purchase interest.

Ramadan is also crippling trading activities in Turkey. Because the beginning of the Sugar Feast (Feast of Breaking the Fast) falls on a Sunday this year, it should hardly affect the market.

Fresh apricots are coming

Exports of fresh apricots begin at the end of June, the first fruits have already arrived on the domestic market, and Turkish traders are hoping for more demand from Russia this year. Since the beginning of the season, almost 78,500 mt of dried apricots from the 2016 crop have been exported, that is 12% more than last year at this time.
