Apricots: New crop prices are being adjusted

MALATYA. The new export season for dried apricots is only a few weeks away. Malatya’s warm and sunny weather is benefitting the development of the fruits shortly before the harvest is due to start.

 

Large fruits are cheaper

Temperatures in Malatya, the main growing region for apricots in Turkey, have reached 35-40°C. The harvest is only days away and conditions could hardly be better. Official production estimates for dried apricots of 90,000 mt are still afloat in the market, whereas market players rather reckon with at last 110,000 mt.

Trading activities are also focusing more on the new crop. While large apricots have become cheaper, the prices for small and medium fruits have risen meaning that the price gap has become smaller. Pr
