MALATYA. The region around Malatya is busy preparing for temperatures well below freezing. At the same time the demand for dried Turkish apricots has increased.

Exports increased by 7.6%

Turkey has so far exported almost 58,000 mt this season, which is 4,000 mt more than at the same time last year. Demand has, however, exclusively increased or whole apricots. Contrary to this, the exports of diced apricots have dropped.

 Nervous farmers

The farmers are growing increasingly worried in Malatya since the night temperatures are expected to drop as low as -8°C. But the potential damage is limited as blossoming has only started. It is, therefore, more likely that the low temperatures will cause delays. Hoping for a revival in demand the farmers are, nevertheless, holding back their remaining stocks. The prices for dried apricots have so far remained stable this week.
