MALATYA. Reports are circulating that Malatya has suffered from hailstorms. In how far this has resulted in damages to the apricot trees, is as of yet unknown.

It all depends on the weather
Hailstorms reportedly hit Malatya on Wednesday morning; whether this will affect the crop is not yet known. Apart from these worrying reports, market participants are very optimistic about the new crop. Dried apricot production is even set to outperform last year, and, contrary to 2017, market participants are banking on good availability of dried apricots, no. 3 and lower. There may, however, be a shortage of larger apricots again. It should be noted that production largely depends on the weather (rain, heat, and the like)
