MALATYA. The Turkish market for dried fruit brought a large production of dried apricots in 2016. What should buyers expect in the next few weeks?

No shortage expected
Since the beginning of the season Turkey has exported over 45,000 mt of dried apricots and with a total production of about 100,000 mt another 55,000 mt are still available until the new crop comes in. Even after deduction of local requirements this should be enough to satisfy the demand in the months to come.

Going further down
Prices have given way again this week and have slipped below the 3-USD/kg mark, which is certainly also due to the faltering Turkish Lira. Market participants still believe that a decline in prices is possible and that levels will not rise again for any length of time even in case of frost. Whether the market and the farmers in particular will do them such a favour will remain to be seen.
