No ships at sea ports. Will the short-term price trend change within the following few months?

Barley: exports have slowed down

There is no doubt among local market players that the quality of the crop this year is higher. Although farmers collected lower output this season, because of a substantial reduction of planted acreages, the prevailing market pulse seem to be keep the crop within the barns.

Weather higher prices kick in later in the year, as was the case since the beginning of October 2016 till the end of the previous marketing season in June 2017, remains to be seen. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, average monthly purchasing prices of barley increased from 0.123 EUR/kg EXW in October 2016 to 0.140 EUR/kg EXW in May 2017.

Exports to the EU markets stood at 175,596 mt while shipped volumes to the rest of the world accounted to 15,078 mt. Local selling parties better tie their belts for a tough regional competition and slow exports.
