VANCOUVER. Wet weather conditions prevail for the chia seeds in South America. Prices are not quite as expected.

Wet harvest season

Reports are sending mixed signals concerning chia seeds in South America. In Bolivia, transportation has resumed after a 53-day blockade, although some congestions persist. Initial news was also highly encouraging in Paraguay as sowing has markedly increased. According to estimates the area sown amounts to around 300,000 ha throughout Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina. Providing that yields are normal regional production, therefore, has the potential to come close to 150,000 mt, which would mark a sharp 50% increase on last year.
