DALIAN/BRUSSELS. The Chinese buckwheat market is currently being driven by the sales of carry-over stocks. Prices have risen slightly. EU countries imported significantly less buckwheat in July 2026 than in the same month last year.

Optimistic outlook

According to exporters, the Chinese buckwheat market is expected to pick up following the autumn crop of 2026. The northern hemisphere is currently still in the final stages of selling off last year’s crop, which is why trading activity remains subdued.

The market is expected to stabilise once the new crop becomes available from September/October 2026 – provided that weather conditions in the key growing regions, including the Chinese provinces of Inner Mongolia and Shanxi, remain within normal ranges and yields develop as plan
