Blue popps seeds: sowing to fall short of expectations in 2025

OLOMOUC. Sowing has not started yet for poppy seeds, but the area may be smaller than anticipated. Farmers are concerned with prevailing dry conditions.

Dry conditions are the issue

More definite estimates for this year's blue poppy crop are emerging in the Czech Republic. While initial projections predicted that the area sown may range as high as 45,000 ha, current assessments indicate a less upbeat figure of around 40,000-42,000 ha. Even so, this would present a slight increase on last year. In addition, it should be noted that this number can still change as the farmers have not yet started sowing. This will, however, change in the next few weeks.
