CHRUDIM. Czech blue poppy seed traders report that a third of the crop has already been sold. Meanwhile, it is interesting to note that the unofficial crop data is significantly lower than the Czech Statistical Office's figures.

Significant differences

According to traders, this year's crops from Hungary and Slovakia are nearly sold out, which is why the trade is now likely to focus on the Czech blue poppy seed market. As market players state, 14,000-15,000 mt of poppy seeds were harvested in the Czech Republic this season, of which 5,000 mt have already been sold. This means that only around 10,000 mt will be available for the rest of the season. As a result, further price increases are to be expected. Despite the low yields, the quality of the crop is still impressive.
