CHRUDIM. Good yields at least slightly reduced the cultivation deficit last year, but there is no guarantee of this in 2023. The Czech poppy seed market is therefore likely to face another sharp drop in production.

Above-average yields were able to mitigate the production deficit in the Czech poppy seed market last year. This year, however, there is no guarantee of that. Due to unfavourable weather conditions, the area under poppy cultivation in 2022 was a good 40% smaller than last year at 26,000 ha.
