Blue poppy seeds: low demand fails to impress market

CHRUDIM/ANKARA. Subdued demand for poppy seeds has failed to impact prices in the Czech Republic. Exports range around 10% lower than last year.

Exports are weak

Poppy seeds exports from the Czech Republic declined for a second month in a row in October as compared with last year. Exports also only reached an average of 1,375 mt in August, although it should be noted that this was considarbly more than the 986 mt exported in August 2020. Market players agree that this trend will continue until the end of the year. Ocotber exports, in fact, slumped by 25% to as little as 2,302 mt as opposed to last year.
