Peanuts: suppliers remain optimistic

NEW DELHI. Although prices on the Indian peanut market have declined again, traders are optimistic that this could soon change. Several factors point to price increases in the near future.

Rainfall causes crop damage

As in the previous week, prices on the Indian peanut market have fallen again by USD 10/mt. However, suppliers remain optimistic that the situation could change soon. African producing countries such as Tanzania, South Africa and Mozambique are facing similar difficulties to Indian growers, including heavy rainfall, which is leading to delayed harvests and crop damage. For this reason, prices cannot be lowered significantly here either, which is worsening export prospects and bringing India back into play.
