CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The official cultivation estimates for the 2023 Czech poppy seed crop are to be published soon. However, a significant decline in production will be unavoidable due to the smaller acreage. In Turkey, meanwhile, the harvest is already imminent.

Cultivation forecast remains low

The official cultivation forecasts for the Czech poppy seed season 2023/2024 are to be announced next week. Market players estimate that 16,000-18,000 ha will be sown this year, which would be a 30-40% decline in cultivation area compared to last year. In the meantime, yields were not particularly good because the fields were too dry. However, regular rainfall ensured that the plants could develop well.
