Buckwheat: price slumps in China

DALIAN/KYIV. Buckwheat prices have declined sharply in China in recent weeks, but trading is relatively subdued. Harvesting is nearly complete in Ukraine.

Deadlock in China

While buckwheat was still trading at USD 1,040/mt FOB Dalian at the start of October, prices have now slumped to USD 940/mt FOB Dalian. Traders were not prepared to accept such high rates and are still hoping for further declines. As this is not an option for producers trading is very much subdued in China at present. The prices for organic buckwheat have also declined sharply, this trend is, however, largely driven by imports.
