Butter: Dairies long for end of summer break

FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS. After the prices for bulk butter have again declined, market players in the EU are starting to wonder when they will finally level off. Even the current USDA price comparison shows a rather astonishing discrepancy between the butter prices in the EU and in the international market.

Further declines in Germany and Poland

In Germany and Poland, the prices for bulk butter have declined by a further EUR 0.05 per kg. The Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten continues to observe a wait-and-see attitude on the part of the buyers. If at all, long-term contracts are still in demand. There still is no sign of any pre-Christmas sales to revive demand and the market appears to be trying out how far prices can be pushed down.
