KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Easter sales for butter have failed to meet expectations in Germany. The EU has, however, reported record exports.

Disappointing sales

With Easter approaching fast sales have slowed in Germany. Demand will only pick up in the second half of April as the Southern German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten anticipates. Retailers had expected better sales for Easter, although demand is not that bad. One problem were special offers for brand products that weighed on demand for no name products. Quotations for table butter with a brand name are, therefore, firm in Kempten at EUR 4.98-5.16/kg (USD 5.43-5.63/kg). Retailers are well stocked.
