KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Butter is in high demand in Germany. Farmers will be granted compensation for the disruptions caused by the discovery of the foot and mouth disease in January. EU exports hit a record in the first quarter.

High demand in Germany

Demand is exceptionally high for bulk butter in Germany. This put a stop to the dip witnessed since March and prompted quotations to rise again at the South German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten. Bulk butter quotations are up at EUR 7.30-7.60/kg (USD 8.28-8.62/kg). As supermarkets will close for a public holiday on Thursday, this will impact table butter, which is currently selling very well. Table butter is trading at a high price level of EUR 7.40-7.80/kg (USD 8.39-8.84/kg) in Kempten on the back of very high demand. Industrial cream
