Butter: shockingly high EU prices

KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Industry leaders in Germany are speculating on the impact of the dry weather for dairy products. Considering that EU butter prices are still shockingly high exports are doing surprisingly well.

High demand for bulk butter in Germany

Speculations are rife in Germany as to what impact the dry start to spring will have on milk output and nutrients. Milk arrivals will peak in mid-May. As the South German Butter and Cheese in Kempten reports weekly arrivals presently range a bit higher than last week but are still lagging more than 1% behind last year. Arrivals in France are nominally up on last year. Prices have softened for industrial cream this week.
