KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. Butter manufacturers are gearing up for Easter in Germany. EU exports witnessed a record-breaking year in 2023. EU butter is highly competitive in the global market, despite internal quotations being on the rise.

Very good demand in Germany

Although milk deliveries are rising in Germany, they range marginally lower than last year and contain less fat. Cream prices have risen. Table butter sales are normal for the time of year and are quoted at EUR 5.69-5.87/kg (USD 6.14-6.34/kg) at the Southern German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten. Margarine sales are declining in favour of butter. With Easter approaching manufacturers are stocking up and demand is reported to be very good. This has driven up bulk butter quotations to EUR 5.45-5.85/kg (USD 5.89-6.32/kg) in Kempten.
