Butter: Middle East demand impacted by war

KEMPTEN/BRUSSELS. With the war in Iran continuing concerns in Germany’s dairy market are being voiced. Despite gaining in recent weeks, EU butter prices are still quite attractive. Last year, EU exports exceeded EUR 2 million (USD 2.3 million) for the first time on record.

War weighs on Middle East demand

Uncertainty over the war has gripped Germany’s dairy market as the South German Butter and Cheese Exchange in Kempten reports. Longer transit times for exports along with price developments driven by possible supply squeezes for oil are the issue. Although milk arrivals are still high, spot market prices have recovered slightly for liquids, especially for fats. With raw materials in ample supply processing capacities have reached their limit and dairies are struggling to meet high demand.
