FRANKFURT. The market in Germany has witnessed a surge in prices over the last few weeks. Now the asparagus and barbecue season has driven prices up further.

Prices continue to rise

The prices for butter have risen by about 0.20 EUR/kg since last week. Trader report that butter is currently trading at 6.00-6.20 EUR/kg EXW. Prices at the South Germany exchange in Kempten an at the Eurex are moving on a similar level. This new increase is not only due the uptick in demand during the asparagus and barbecue season, but also because of the limited supplies of cream, which is required to make butter. Some bakers have been able to obtain cheaper offers. The price level in Germany is way above prices in the global market.
