Cashews: Larger supplies, lower quality

HANOI. Experts are reckoning with a global production increase of 4.8% in 2018/19. Market players, however, suspect that this will not necessarily entail a larger supply of high-quality nuts.

 

What to expect in 2018/19
Production estimates for the Ivory Coast and Tanzania are satisfactory with 725,000 mt (+7.7%) and 320,000 mt (+6.7%) respectively, while raw cashew nut production in India is set to decline by 2.1% to 800,000 mt. With 300,000 mt, Vietnam's 2018/19 crop will achieve a comparable level to last year's. In total, market participants foresee an increase of 4.8%, resulting in a yield of 3.485 million mt.
