NEW DELHI/HANOI. Although the processors in Vietnam were able to increase exports last year, the low prices are a problem.

Export value down by 3%

According to Nguyen Minh Hoa, Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS), Vietnam once again took first place among the top cashew processors and exporters in 2018. An estimated 165 million mt of raw nuts were processed last year. As much as 391,000 mt of cashew kernels worth USD 3.52 billion were exported.

At a first glance this may look like a satisfactory figure. In reality the working conditions are highly critical for the processors in Vietnam. Although the export volume increased by 7.8% over 2017
