HANOI/NEW DELHI. The market witnessed considerable price hikes last year. Some experts claim that 2017 will be equally exciting.

The high level the prices reached towards the end of 2016 have prevented buyers from conducting further purchases. Harvesting is about to start in some states in Africa and most market participants reckon that most buyers are already covered for the first quarter.

The next few months are decisive

The high raw nut prices were partly to blame for last year’s increases. It should, however, be noted the prices for processed cashews are still relatively low as compared to the raw nut prices. Should demand decrease before the new crop becomes available it is possible that the raw nut prices will also drop. This may in turn enable the processors to cut their prices. Should demand, however, remain stable it is very possible that prices will remain on a similarly high level as 2016.
