Exports running smoothly
According to experts at Ofi, the quality of cashews from West African sources is better this year than in 2024. Satisfactory quality is reported in Guinea-Bissau and Senegal in particular. Most of the exportable nuts have already been shipped to their destination markets – 85% were already shipped by the end of June. Availability is therefore now scarce in some countries of origin, partly because the season is coming to an end. Exports are running smoothly and prices for in-shell cashews have fallen slightly as Indian and Vietnamese processors are now largely covered.
US tariffs are a decisive factor
Shipments from Burkina Faso have also risen again as the government has lifted export restrictions and free trade has resumed. The first shipments have already reached their destinations and are helping to alleviate the shortage of goods. Overall, the Asian markets in particular have been quite active at present, and many buyers have already covered their cashew nut requirements for Q3 of 2025. According to Ofi, the situation in Europe is similar, with relatively few new contracts concluded last month. Buyers in the US are also very cautious at present; here, it will depend on whether end consumer interest increases. Buyers are monitoring the situation regarding US tariffs and are currently only purchasing what is absolutely necessary.
Prices in India are rising
As supplies are slowly becoming scarce in some countries, Indian cashew kernels are also in demand at present. This has caused prices to rise in recent weeks, by an average of USD 15/mt. Cashew kernels, W320, currently cost USD 8,080/mt FOB India.
